Erect. Stems hairless when mature. Basal leaves on petioles, blades thick and firm, widely spoon-shaped, wavy- to round-toothed or entire; stem leaves sessile, often deeply lobed, becoming smaller upward. Single flower head per stalk. Flower cup created of hairless green bracts, often with red-tinged tips, about 13 rays around 40 disk flowers. Grows in damp alpine meadows at mid to high elevations.
