Erect single stem. Leaves 2: 1 basal, 1 on stem. Basal leaf divided into 3 lobes that may be divided again, has some teeth, may wither before flowering; stem leaf divided into 3 lobes with teeth. Flower usually single with 5 petal-like sepals, blue, reddish, purple, or white, more than 35 stamens. Grows in moist shaded conifer forests among moss or other plants from beach to 5000 ft. Similar to A. lyallii.
