Stem single and stout, hairless. Leaves 4–12 in., pinnately divided into 3 leaflets, green, shiny on both sides, petioles sheathed at axis with stem. Leaflets 1–4 in. long, oval, irregularly toothed. Small white flowers without bracts occur in 20–40 tight clusters on 1–3 in. stalks, forming an umbel. Grows on bluffs, beaches, streams near coast, infrequently inland.
