Numerous erect to decumbent stems. Leaves 3–5 in. long, with pinnately separated leaflets 13–21, oblong, rounded tips, slightly hairy on underside. Flower stalks stout, 1–8 in. long, calyx bears straight black and white hairs. Flowers to 150 in dense 2–6 in. raceme, creamy white, keel usually purplish-tipped. Seedpod sessile, erect, oblong, 1/3–3/4 in. long. Grows in open forests. Similar var. brevidens has calyx densely covered with short soft hairs.
