Erect. Stem branched from near ground. Leaves oblong to widely lance-shaped; lower leaves with short petioles, 1–3 in. long, wavy-edged to pinnately lobed; upper leaves scattered on stem, sessile. Flowers, sepals form a tube around purple petals. Seedpods on ascending stalks, 1 1/3–1 3/4 in. long, narrowly lance-shaped, usually curved and covered with prominent stalked glands. Grows in fields, roadsides, waste places. Widespread at low to mid elevations. Common weed in eastern Washington.
