Several stems from leaf rosette. Stems branched at leaf axils, hairs near bottom coarse and forked. Basal leaves small to 1 1/2 in., oblong to egg-shaped, sometimes with tiny teeth; stem leaves few or none. Flowers yellow on upper stem, not clustered, 35 or fewer. Grows in moist meadows, steam banks, rock crevices or gravelly places, at high elevations.
