Siskiyou Fritillary

Erect, unbranched, leafless stem. Leaves 2–4, oblong, covered with bluish white waxy powder, to 3 in. long, folded, resembling miniature tulip leaves. Flowers 1 or 2, shallow bells, nodding to outward-facing, yellow or greenish yellow with red or brown markings or reversed. Grows on serpentine with many rocks in full sun at 1100–6700 ft. This rare plant, our shortest fritillary, has been known to hybridize with small forms of F. affinis.
