Western Sweet Cicely

Stems clustered, erect, 1 to few, shiny to sparsely hairy. Leaf blade 4–8 in. long, divided 1–3 times. Leaflets lance- to egg-shaped, irregularly lobed, saw-toothed. Flower stalks leafless, 2–8 in. tall, supporting loose groups of small yellowish flowers. Seed needle-shaped, smooth, not tailed or barbed. Grows in conifer forests, streamsides, seeps, moist places, at mid and high elevations. Plant has strong odor of licorice.
