Woodland Phlox

Mat-forming, creeping, hairless evergreen. Stems near or along soil, flowering branches upright. Leaves opposite, oval, 1/2–1 in., shiny. Flower branches erect. Flowers pink with variety of white and darker pink markings in center. Petals narrow to wide, overlapping. Grows in open woods, partly shaded conifer forests, at low to mid elevations.
