Pacific Popcorn Flower
Annual with several erect stems, shaggy-haired, basal rosette. Leaves egg-shaped at base, with few smaller stem leaves alternate. Flowers more than 10, in a coil that is tight toward the tips. Seed is a thick nutlet in a distinctive cross shape. Grows in grasslands, woodlands, forests, at low to mid-elevations throughout western North America.
