Snow Plant

Stout, fleshy, bright red spike emerging directly from saprophytic, brittle, hairy roots. Leaves are scale-like. Flowers are closed bells with 5 curved-back pointed tips and 5 sepals persisting after seeding. Grows in coniferous, mixed forests, at mid to high elevations, blooming as snow recedes.
