Small plant with stems ascending to erect. Leaves divided palmately, 3 leaflets 1/3–1 in. long. Flower heads upright surrounded by united, finely toothed bracts. Calyx tips very long, divided bristles that surround individual flowers. Flowers pale green, sometimes with pink blush at tip, before quickly aging to brown. Grows in vernal-damp valleys, ditches, shrublands, forests, at low to mid elevations.
