Canyon Clover

Erect robust perennial, usually hairless. Stem to 2 ft. long. Leaves on stems, stipules green, 1/2–1 in., entire. Leaves with 3 egg-shaped leaflets, each 1–4 in. long. Flower head upright, elongated, with upper flowers spreading, lower flowers reflexed, greenish white or pinkish. Similar rounder flower head of T. eriocephalum holds its head up, while T. howellii turns downward in flower. Grows in wet meadows, swamps, shady places, at low to mid-elevations.
