Upright, smooth, nearly hairless. Upper leaves divided into 3–5 lobes; lower leaves linear, entire. Flower bracts and calyx bright red at top, pale green on lower section often separated by a narrow yellow band, narrowly lobed, mostly 5 lobes with sharply pointed tips. Grows in wet meadows in upper montane to subalpine areas.
