Monardella purpurea
Clump, does not smell like mint. Stems dark purple, branched. Leaves deep green or purplish, broadly oval, 1 in. long, shiny on top, with small hairs underneath, edges rolled under. Flowers numerous in tight cluster, surrounded by purplish leaf-like bracts coated with fine hairs. Flower deep rose-purple, extending well above hairy calyx with long pointed lobes. Grows in slopes, open forests, on rocky serpentine, at low to mid elevations.
