Perennial or small shrub. Stems creeping, root at nodes. Branches look like pickles, round, fleshy, erect, prostrate to upright, jointed. Usually 3 tiny flowers are attached into the joint rings along with rounded bracts. Grows in saltwater marshes, alkaline flats, from sea level to 3500 ft.
