Erect stems in groups or tight clusters. Stems hairless below, sparsely hairy above. Basal leaves many, oblong, 2–8 in. long, entire or with few teeth, tapering into petioles edged with narrow wings; upper leaves short, linear, entire, sessile. Oblong inflorescence consists of erect to spreading branches with flowers arranged on one side. Flowers bear 8 petals, longer than cup. Grows in dry places in foothills, valleys.
