Open mat. Obvious, spreading, reddish stolons have leafy tips. Each tip will grow into new plant. Leaves narrow, oval, entire, gray-haired. Flower held singly on short stem, facing upward. Male and female flowers form a whitish fluff. Grows in dry rocky soils, open areas, vernal-wet in sagebrush-steppe.
