Brewerimitella breweri

Saxifragaceae

Brewer's Mitrewort

Brewerimitella breweri
Basal rosette with upright flower stem. Leaves round, about 1–3 in. across, divided into 7–11 indistinct lobes with shallow round teeth. Flowers small in narrow, 1-sided spike; shallow cup holds yellow-green petals that are long, thin, divided into 5–9 linear opposite lobes. Grows in moist woods, along streams, at high elevations. The smooth ripe seeds of mitellas are held in shallow cups; it is thought that dispersal occurs when raindrops, with a direct hit, eject the seed.
