Single or many upright stems from rhizome. Stem stout, hairless. Leaves thick, fleshy, green or tinted purple. Basal leaves 1–3 in. long, egg-shaped to almost round, usually divided into 3 leaflets; upper stem leaves divided, 3–5 linear to lance-shaped leaflets, entire, few teeth, or 1 at tip. Flower petals 4, white to pale pink, to 1/2 in. Grows in shady, moist woods, fields near coastline.
