Mats woolly. Stems prostrate, numerous, concealed by silver-white leaf bracts. Leaves fine needle-like spines. Flowers in small clusters scattered on stem, 5 tiny, densely woolly sepals enclosed with stout spiny calyx. Grows on dunes and sandy beaches along coast.
