Erect, covered with white-woolly hairs. Leaves 3/4–2 1/4 in. long, entire or divided, 1 or 2 pairs of somewhat dished lobes. Bracts 1/4–3/4 in. long, deeply divided; 3–5 rounded, dull yellow to rusty red lobes. Flowers pale green or purple-red. Grows on open dry rocks or summits of mountains at mid and high elevations.
