Castilleja hispida
Cluster from woody base, with many bristly hairs. Stems erect to ascending, usually unbranched. Leaves lance-shaped to linear; upper stem leaves may be divided into 3 or more shallow lobes. Inflorescence short, elongating later. Bracts bright scarlet, sometimes yellow, broad, deeply lobed, 3–5 lobes, partly covering greenish flowers. Grows in dry openings in forests, meadows, from coast to high elevations.
