Cushion less than 2 in. across from single root. Plant with cobwebby hairs below, glands above. Stem short. Leaves clustered around flower head, egg-shaped, 1/3–1 1/2 in. long, entire. Inflorescence consists of sessile clusters of 2(–3) rayless flowers, each surrounded by many bristles. Flower tubes and throat pale purplish, lobes 5, open flat, white. Grows in dry volcanic sand, scree or barren ridges, at high elevations. Dimeresia is Greek, meaning "two," for the usually 2-flowered heads.
