Small, compact. Stems thick, spreading outward then turning upward. Leaves oval to spoon-shaped, somewhat thick or succulent, shiny or coated with white waxy powder or densely hairy. Basal leaves to 2 in. wide, 4 in. long, widest near rounded tip; upper leaves sometimes clasping stem. Flower heads single, 1/2–1 1/2 in. across; ray flowers 80–160, reddish purple or white; disk yellow; cup sticky. Grows on coastal bluffs, sandy beaches.
