One-Flowered Gentian
Erect. Basal and lower stem leaves less than 1 in. long, spoon-shaped, often withered by blooming; upper stem leaves 3–6 pairs, lance-shaped. Flower single on undivided stem without bracts at base, calyx tube with 4 lance-shaped pointed lobes. Flower is a deep blue funnel-shaped tube 3/4–1 1/2 in., divided nearly 1/2 its length into 4 lance-shaped pointed lobes, with toothed tips. There are no appendages between lobes. Ovary distinctly stalked. Grows in boggy meadows, springs, near streams, at mid to high elevations.
