Several erect stems in cluster. Stems have flattened hairs and a few stiff straight hairs. Oblong leaves with largest midstem on short petioles; lower and upper leaves sessile. Single flower head at stem top is held upright with leaf-like bracts underneath. Ray flowers 11–20, each about 1 in. long, surrounding yellow disk. Grows on dry hillsides, in brush, at high mountain elevations.
