Erect or sprawling. Sturdy stems, thick blue-green leaves with 9–15 oval leaflets. Flowers in a round head, 10–20, yellowish or white, blotched with dull reddish purple or pink. Grows in disturbed soils, moist mixed forests, at 1000–7000 ft. Var. crassifolius is greenish yellow, often spotted with deep purple. Var. subglaber is whitish with red or purplish tints; grows west of Cascade Mountain Range.
