Erect from rhizomes, without thorns. Stem green, sometimes yellow at base. Leaves palmately compound with petioles to 1 in. long. Leaflets 3, lance-shaped. Flowers few, purple or white, in clusters on short stalks from main stem. Seedpod more or less round. Grows in floodplains, sandy soils, savannas.
