Ascending to prostrate stems 2–12 in. long. Basal leaves divided into 3 oblong entire leaflets, each sessile or with short petiole. Foul-smelling flower cluster tops stem. Flowers white tinted pink, funnel-shaped, with 1/4–1/2 in. spreading lobes with tips reflexed back, many long hairs on inner surface. Grows in water at edges of bogs, marshes, along lakes, wet meadows, seeps, below 10,000 ft.
