Tolmie's Saxifrage
Mats flat and creeping, erect flower stems. Plant holds old leaves under new deep green ones. Leaves fleshy, 1/2–3/4 in., widest at divided tip, 3 lobes. Flower stems 1–3 in., somewhat hairy, glandular above, holding 1 or more flowers. Flowers unspotted, white or cream, held in shallow purplish red cups. Grows in rocky talus, on outcrops to alpine slopes, blooming just as snow melts through autumn. Saxifraga bronchialis grows in similar habitats and also forms small mats, with stiff, pointed leaves and sharp hairs on edges, but with longer flower stems and prominent colored dots on petals.
