Cushion. Stems upright, hairless, rarely branched. Leaves oblong, green or purplish. Basal leaves many, 1/3–1 in. long, entire, with petioles; stem leaves becoming smaller upward, shallowly toothed, clasping stem. Flowers numerous in 1–3 in. head, with white to pinkish purple, spoon-shaped petals. Seedpods flat, circular, with tip notched; stalk 1–2 times longer than seedpod. Grows on talus, alluvial slopes, grassy spots, below 7000 ft.
