Erect stems from multileaved rosette. Leaves thick, almost succulent, oval to round. Lower leaves 1–2 in. long, on slightly longer petioles, entire or slightly toothed. Upper leaves lobed, sessile. Flower heads 4–20 on long stalks, with 8 or possibly 13 ray flowers, more than 40 disk flowers. Grows in dry woodlands, rocky places, at low to alpine elevations.
