Glaucous Penstemon
Clump of upright stems. Leaves form well-developed rosette at base. Leaves firm, oval, with pointed tip and short petioles, coated with whitish waxy powder; stem leaves lance-shaped. Flowers in 1–5 whorls, each dense with flowers. Flowers more or less 1/2 in. long, deep blue with pale yellow beard; staminode covered with short golden hairs. Grows in volcanic soils in forest openings. Euglaucus refers to the glaucous surface of the foliage.
