Brewer's Cinquefoil

Stems ascending, hairless or coated with gray, straight, stiff hairs. Basal and lower stem leaves pinnately divided, 3–7 leaflets per side, overlapping and lobed, petiole usually heavily coated with silky gray hairs. Flowers about 20 on much divided stalks. Grows in meadows and rocky places at high and alpine elevations. Subsp. drummondii petiole is less hairy, with 5–9 uncrowded leaflets. Similar P. biennis is annual or biennial, coated with glands, with leaves divided into oval, deeply toothed leaflets, often withered by blooming.
