Ascending. Stems leafy, lightly coated with short, spreading to ascending hairs without glands. Leaves on stem divided into 3–5 oblong leaflets, 3/4–1 1/2 in. long, hairy, toothed, lowest leaves dropped by bloom time. Flowers numerous among leaves at stem tops. Flower petals tiny, obscure, pale yellow; calyx coated with long, shaggy, soft hairs. Grows in moist soils, often on disturbed sites, along creeks and rivers, at low to mid elevations.
