Single erect stem, unbranched or branched from base. Leaves pointing upward from short petioles or sessile, toothed or deeply lobed. Yellow flowers atop branches; petals spoon-shaped. Erect seedpods oblong to nearly round on spreading stalks. Grows in wet spots below 6500 ft. throughout North America. Palustris, meaning "wet places," refers to where it grows.
