Purple Sage
Shrub with upright stems. Plant strongly scented of mint and sage, densely white-scaly. Stems much divided. Leaves less than 1 in., linear to spoon-shaped, entire. Flowers atop stems in series of clusters, each above thick often purplish bracts about as long as flowers. Flowers blue or purple to rose or rarely white; upper lip 2-lobed; lower lip longer and divided into 3 parts; stamens and style extending well beyond lips. Grows in dry rocky places, talus slopes, outcrops, often in sagebrush, at low to high elevations.
