Pacific Sanicle

Plant erect. Stem thick. Leaves alternate, divided into 3 or possibly 5 lobes, very sharply toothed; lower leaves with long petioles; upper leaves sessile. Flowers yellow, sometimes tinted purple, in 3–12 in. umbels at stem top; bracts at base of umbel are large, leaf-like. Grows on open slopes, woodlands, ravines near coastline and low elevations. Crassicaulis means "thickened stem." A variable, widespread plant found throughout the western states.
