Erect, dioecious. Stems often purplish, leafy. Basal and stem leaves egg-shaped, divided into 3 segments, divided again to narrow lobes; top surface smooth; underside glandular, rough-feeling. Flowers purplish or greenish white in stemmed clusters with small leaves at top; male flowers with 18–25 stamens. Seed tips pointing outward or upward when ripening. Grows in moist places in shady woodlands.
