Viola sheltonii
Forms small mats from spreading roots. Leaves horizontal to ground, nearly round, deeply divided into 3-lobed leaflets. Yellow flowers single on light brown stems have maroon veins on the 3 lower petals. The upper 2 petals have maroon backs. The 2 side petals are sparsely bearded. Grows in deep duff or sandy to gravelly soil in mixed woodlands at low to high elevations.
