Clump of upward-pointing leaves, stems bearing single flower. Plant is densely coated with matted hairs, becoming hairless as season progresses. Basal leaves oval, 10–16 in. long; upper leaves smaller. Flower head contains 13–21 white ray flowers, each 1–2 in. long, disk of many yellow flowers. Grows in moist places, open grasslands and shrublands, below 6500 ft.
